This is one of the BoC lists I’ll be running (or atleast close to) in the year 2019.
The BoC battletome is amazing, full of interesting units and combos. This is just one of those amazing things. What is that you ask? C-ckatrices.
C-ckatrices no longer take up a behemoth slot. And for just 100pts per model, they are simply awesome!
Running Beasts of Chaos allegiance gives you access to the herdstone. This is a growing buff and debuff aura. This grows 6″ every battle round. It gives your units wholly within its bubble immune to battleshock, and enemy units within it arw -1 to their save. (Does not work on ethereal units).
You also get to sacrifice ungor(or anything really) for primordial call points. These allow you to summon new units onto the battlefield.
Artefacts, Command Traits & Abilities
It honestly doesn’t really matter what you decide to take. But in this loadout I’ve taken a shaggoth as the general. He’s a tanky wizard who, at the start of the game, generate D3 command points due to his command trait. These will come in use to auto run c-ckatrices 6″ for maximum threat range of mortal wounds.
His artefact allows him to ignore spells effects on a 4+. This helps him survive a little bit longer. This really isn’t mandatory, you could choose anything you wanted and I’m sure there’s better choices in the realms.
Shaggoth, as described. Has killy potential in melee and can cast/unbind once. Not too ‘shaggy’
Bray shamans are great for access to a good spell lore. Only 100pts and work well at giving brayherd units +3″ to move.
Ungors are in there for battleline, screening and sacrificing to the herdstone.
Ungor raiders are much the same. They get to move 6″ after setup which is a great way to push back an alphastrike so you can counter with your winged dildos.
C-ckatrices. The bread and butter of this barnyard. For 100pts, you get a monster thats not a behemoth. That move 12″, fly, have 8 wounds, a 6+ save and bravery 5. After reading those lacklustre stats, you’re probably thinking ‘why the fuck am i reading this if they’re shit?’ Well, I’ll tell you why! C-ckatrices have a shooting attack which does not use the regular sequence. (It can run and do this). Ita shooting attack has a 10″ range and you roll a dice. On a 4+ it does D6 mortals to the unit you chose to shoot. This completely ignores modifiers to hit such as lookoutsir or the gryph feather charm. C-ckatrices also have 10 attacks on the charge which arent too bad. You could gang bang a unit thats been hit by the bull and nuke it with chickens!
We don’t need that shit. We’re 19 drops, who cares about lowering them
Not needed for BoC in general. We only have access to slaves to darkness anyway which have no roll to fill
Magic, Endless & Realm Spells
Righto, lets talk wombo combos with some spells and a whole heap of possessed chickens.
Wildfire taurus. An endless spell which – in my opinion – should be included in every BoC army. Casting value of 6, setup is 12, mpves 12 and flies. Everything it touches or ends within 1″ does d3 mortals to it. If the units 10+ models it does d6. Crazy amounts of damage. But thats not all. Every unit that it flies over (even idoneth) fights LAST that turn (not battleround).
Tendrils of atrophy. Goes off on a 6+, pick an enemy unit within 12″, that unit subtracts one from the save rolls. Again, doesnt work on ethereal units but it’s bloody good. If you hit an enemy unit with this late game, chances are they’ll be -2 to save rolls because of the herdstone.
The last spell I’ve picked is vicious stranglethorns. Goes off on a 7+ and basically turns a shaman into a knight heraldor from stormcast but slightly better. You pick a terrain feature wholly within 24″ and enemy units within 3″ take d3 mortals. Great for picking off some wounds here and there.
You probably won’t need to use devolve from the shamans warscroll, but that’s not bad for pulling heroes off objectives in battleplans like 3 places and relocation orb.
The shaggoths spell summon lightning is a healing spell for him. He heals d3 wounds and rerolls wound rolls on a cast of 7+.
The other spell he knows is hailstorm. This basically halves the move, run and charge of a unit within 21″ on a cast of a 6+. Not too shabby!
Ok, so we’ve touched on most things this list is about so I’ll keep this section brief.
You’re 19 drops, you’re never choosing who goes first. But who cares! Deploy c-ckatrices along the backline and ungors up the front. You can play cagey for a turn and hide behind ungor screens. If they go first then they’ll come into your threat range!
C-ckatrices have a 22+D6″ threat range in their mortal attacks. So use that to your advantage, snipe out heroes easy and gang bang an enemy unit thats been hit with the wildfire taurus and tendrils of atrophy.
Summon on more c-ckatrices, or more bodies. Basically whatever you need. Its advised to keep a shaman and some ungor at the herdstone for sacrificing.
Feel free to use this as inspiration and make your own. I’m sure there are plenty of people who’ve come up with something similiar. Some changes you could make is add in more chickens in exchange for some survivability and competitiveness – not that this is an overly competitive list anyway, but it’ll sure catch people off guard!
