So similar lists have been around for a long time, but I think it’s the perfect matchup to destroy this particular Nighthaunt meta. I went Kroak over the usual build to be more survivable and drop his aoe mortal bombs combined with the Horrorghast and Salamanders withering amount of mortal output. 

Allegience Ability

Contemplations of the Ancient ones: replace  a spell on your slaan at the end of the hero phase. Basically gives spell versatility as the game progresses.

Sacred Asterisms:
One of 3 effects you choose per turn:

+1 run and charge all units 

add 1 to cast or dispel are the only two that will be used. Allows 8 inch charges if you portal in the salamanders or gives Kroak a massive +4 to cast with the astrolith bearer as well.


entire list is bravery 10 very useful against being terrified etc.

Ability to summon more units to the battlefield.

Artefacts, Command Traits & Abilities

Godbeast pendant: if the astrolith bearer dies he comes back on a 4+

Appear on Command:

for each unit you have on the battlefield you can drop a unit in from reserves within 18 inches of any slaan. Effectively allowing you to drop all Salamaders in where you need them and Kroak thrives here as he’s more survivable to push up into better positions for this.



incredibly survivable and one of the best casters and dispellers in the game. He can have up to 4 dispels at +3 anywhere on the board and can have up to 4 casts at + 4 with a mortal wound aoe multi cast and a board wide d6 unit d3 mortal wounds spell great for knocking off low wound characters.

Astrolith Bearer:

this guy adds 6 inches to Kroak spells and gives him +1 to cast.

Salamanders do insane damage in both shooting and combat. 


Vanguard allows a free charge reroll on a salamander unit dropping in from reserves.

bounty Hunter allows the Salamander +1 damage against the majority of the Nighthaunt army

Expert Conquerors means all of those Galletian Veterans count as 3x when contesting objectives. 

Magic, Endless & Realm Spells

Horroghast: this spell means any unit in range cannot use inspiring presence and lose an extra d3 models per fail which is massive. 

In-Game Guide

This army is designed to control the board by wiping out entire units and denying enemy magic. It can go first or second and therefore the drops don’t matter as much, which allows you to out deploy your opponent and then pick and choose where to concentrate. It snipes off characters with low wounds and has a large amount of mortal wound dealing that negates the effectiveness of anti rend Nighthaunt.  

Secondary Objectives

If you are screened out of the pop and drop, just sit the salamanders behind their screens and summon more. Then use unleash hell to wipe units out and counter charge.
